THE STORY BEHIND…

Here we have Magu. Directly translated from Chinese ‘ma’ means cannabis (Amsterdam style?) and ‘gu’ is an aunt, maid or goddess. Once again we have a powerful protector of women. She is dressed in the style of the Chinese army, showing this girl means business, with her clenched hands ready to take down anyone who stands in her way. Luck is on her side through the red background, a lucky colour in China. Her ferocity and untamed nature are what she is all about.

This series of twelve poppy, colourful, digital collages sees gods and goddesses reborn through a combination of previously produced photographs. As most editions of the artwork have found a new owner already it is under collectors status and therefor a little more pricey than most other works.

artist

Barbara van den Berg (The Netherlands, 1978) is an insanely talented artist. Did you think the Dutch could only paint flowers and cows? Well, you will have to reconsider after seeing her work. Look closer: some of her collages are the mix of up to 40 different characters. Who would have thought a patchwork of people could be that beautiful? She sure did. Is she a visionary? Is she a magician? Go back a few lines: insanely talented, it’s as simple as that.
